Trauma-Informed, Body-Aware Therapy

Most people will experience trauma at some point in their lives, whether through a car accident, abuse, neglect, the sudden loss of a loved one, community or systemic violence, or a natural disaster. For some, the nervous system is able to gradually restore a sense of safety and connection with the support of loved ones. But for many others, trauma leaves behind lasting effects—deep emotional pain, anxiety, confusion, shutdown, or chronic stress responses that can persist long after the event is over.

These responses are not weaknesses—they are the body and brain’s intelligent ways of adapting to overwhelm and surviving threat. However, when these protective patterns become stuck, they can interfere with daily life, relationships, and overall well-being.

Talk Therapy Alone Often Isn’t Enough

While insight and reflection are valuable, trauma lives not just in thoughts, but in the body and nervous system. That’s why I integrate somatic and cognitive approaches, blending bottom-up (body-based) and top-down (thinking-based) methods for deeper, more lasting healing.

My Approach Includes:

  • Somatic EMDR – combining trauma processing with body-based awareness and nervous system tracking

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – supporting new perspectives and habits

  • Attachment-based and neurodivergent-affirming care – recognizing the impact of early relational trauma and honoring neurodiverse ways of experiencing the world

  • Trauma-informed support for sensory, emotional, and behavioral regulation

Common Trauma Responses

These may include:

  • Avoidance – pulling away from people, places, or sensations that feel triggering

  • Intrusive memories – nightmares, flashbacks, or distressing thoughts

  • Hyperarousal – irritability, anger, difficulty sleeping, feeling constantly on edge

  • Changes in mood or memory – emotional numbing, low motivation, difficulty recalling parts of the traumatic experience

If you recognize yourself or someone you love in these patterns, you’re not alone—and healing is possible. Reach out for a free consultation to see how we might work together.
